$1.5M Grant to Expand Biotechnology Workforce Training in Johnston County
The Johnston County Industrial Development Corporation has secured a $1.5 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to expand the Johnston County Workforce Development Center in Clayton. This facility is a key hub for biotechnology and automation training.
The expansion will increase the center's training capacity by 25%, enabling it to serve an additional 80 students annually in life sciences programs. New construction will provide classroom areas, while existing spaces will be repurposed for laboratory use.
Industry partners like Novo Nordisk and Grifols will collaborate to align training with workforce needs. The grant is part of a $17.3 million statewide funding package aimed at workforce readiness and agricultural development.
