AAI Allocates Rs 3,490 Crore for Air Navigation System Upgrades in India
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has allocated Rs 3,490 crore to modernize its air navigation systems from 2026 to 2028, with Rs 1,532 crore designated for automating air traffic management. This investment follows a recent disruption in Delhi's air traffic control and aims to enhance Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) infrastructure nationwide. Additionally, AAI is partnering with IIT Madras for cyber security consultancy services and has filled 2,341 technical posts while 1,279 air traffic controller positions remain vacant.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is investing Rs 3,490 crore to upgrade air navigation systems from 2026 to 2028, focusing on automating air traffic management systems. Minister Murlidhar Mohol stated that Rs 1,532 crore will be allocated for automation, with the remainder for other CNS/ATM equipment.
This decision follows a recent air traffic control glitch at Delhi airport. AAI is also collaborating with IIT Madras for cyber security consultancy services. Over the past three years, AAI has filled 2,341 technical posts, while 1,279 out of 5,537 air traffic controller positions remain unfilled. Despite the vacancies, safety standards are reported to be maintained.
