ABS Launches €400 Million Green Steel Plant in Italy
ABS has initiated the construction of the Hybrid Digital Green Plant in Friuli, representing a €400 million investment aimed at developing Europe's most advanced special steel production line. This project integrates twelve proprietary technologies from Danieli, positioning ABS as a leader in sustainable steel production amid challenges in the European steel industry.

ABS - Acciaierie Bertoli Safau SpA has commenced construction of the Hybrid Digital Green Plant, a €400 million investment with €355 million allocated for Danieli supplies. This facility will feature twelve advanced production technologies, including the new Digimelter electric furnace, which aims to enhance sustainability by reducing carbon intensity and energy consumption.
The project has received positive evaluation under the Italian MIMIT Development Agreements and a €2.9 million contribution from Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. The plant is expected to cut CO emissions by 30% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, increasing production capacity from 1.4 million to over 2.1 million tons annually. The integration of machine learning and advanced automation is set to redefine production efficiency and safety.
