Abu Dhabi Launches Carbon Capture Policy to Regulate CCUS Activities
CARBON CAPTURE
Abu Dhabi's Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs launched a Carbon Capture Policy to establish a regulatory framework for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS). The policy aims to support environmental sustainability, stimulate job creation, and attract investments in carbon management technologies.
Key pillars include optimizing domestic geological resources for CO2 storage and enhancing investment efficiency through shared infrastructure. Major projects like Al Reyadah and the Habshan CCUS project aim to capture significant CO2 volumes. The UAE currently captures approximately 0.8 mtpa of CO2, with potential to scale up to 200 mtpa.
