AEP Unveils $78 Billion Investment Plan for Renewable Energy and Grid Modernization
American Electric Power (AEP) is set to invest $78 billion from 2026 to 2030, aimed at enhancing grid infrastructure and integrating renewable energy. This initiative responds to a rise in electricity demand, driven primarily by industrial electrification and data centers.

American Electric Power (AEP) plans to invest $78 billion between 2026 and 2030 to modernize its grid and expand renewable energy capacity. The investment will support the addition of 27,235 MW in generation capacity, including 6,378 MW of solar and 5,056 MW of wind, as well as 502 MW of battery storage.
AEP has identified over $10 billion in additional investment opportunities and aims for an 11% annual rate base growth. The utility has secured $5 billion in loans and grants from the U.S. Department of Energy to support these initiatives. With contracted new load additions rising to 69 GW, AEP is positioning itself to meet the electricity demands of advanced manufacturing and data centers, while also targeting operational earnings growth through strategic investments.
