Amazon Acquires Fauna Robotics, Developer of Humanoid Robot Sprout
Amazon has acquired New York-based Fauna Robotics, known for its humanoid robot Sprout, aimed at social environments like homes and schools. Fauna will operate as an Amazon subsidiary, focusing on consumer robotics to enhance customer experiences. The $50,000 Sprout can perform light tasks and interact socially but is not designed for heavy lifting. This acquisition represents Amazon's strategy to expand beyond warehouse automation into consumer-facing robotics.

Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a New York startup that recently launched the Sprout humanoid robot designed for social spaces. The acquisition allows Fauna to operate as an Amazon subsidiary. The 1.5-foot-tall Sprout, priced at $50,000, is intended for friendly interactions rather than heavy tasks, capable of performing simple actions like dancing and picking up objects.
Amazon aims to broaden its robotics capabilities, having previously faced challenges in consumer robotics and regulatory hurdles in acquiring iRobot. The deal underscores Amazon's commitment to developing robots for everyday environments.
