Ambuja Cements and Leilac Partner for Low-Carbon Cement Production in India
Ambuja Cements has partnered with UK-based Leilac to create a commercial-scale low-carbon cement project in Gujarat. This initiative aims to capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually, aligning with Ambuja's net zero target for 2050.

Ambuja Cements has formed a partnership with Leilac to develop a commercial-scale low-carbon cement production facility at its Sanghi plant in Sanghipuram, Kutch. This project will utilize Leilac's carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology, facilitating the potential capture of over one million tonnes of CO2 each year.
The project could be scaled by 7 to 8 times if successful. This collaboration is part of Ambuja's broader decarbonisation strategy, backed by nearly 1 GW of renewable energy, and aims to reduce coal consumption to zero while allowing flexible use of alternative fuels. The initiative is expected to enhance the economic viability of carbon capture technologies, promoting large-scale deployment in the cement sector.
