Ambuja Cements Partners with Leilac for Low-Carbon Cement Production
Ambuja Cements has entered a partnership with Leilac Limited to advance low-carbon cement production through a pilot project in Gujarat. This initiative could potentially capture over one million tonnes of CO2 annually, significantly contributing to the industry's decarbonization efforts and supporting Ambuja's net zero target for 2050.

Ambuja Cements is collaborating with Leilac Limited to develop a commercial-scale low-carbon cement production pathway at its 6.6 MTPA Sanghi plant in Kutch, Gujarat. The pilot project will utilize Leilac's carbon capture technology and hybrid electric heating, aiming to reduce coal consumption to zero while increasing renewable energy usage.
If the initial demonstration is successful, the project could be expanded seven to eight times, enabling the capture of more than one million tonnes of CO2 annually. This project supports Ambuja's broader decarbonization strategy and net zero target by 2050, aided by nearly 1 GW of captive green power capacity. The successful implementation of this technology could serve as a replicable model for low-carbon cement production in India and other regions.
