Ammonia Leak at Caloocan Ice Plant Hospitalizes Ten, Evacuates Ninety
An ammonia leak at an ice plant in Caloocan City resulted in ten hospitalizations and the evacuation of 90 individuals. This incident raises concerns about safety protocols in industrial facilities and emergency response effectiveness.

On Wednesday, ten people were hospitalized due to an ammonia leak from an ice plant in Barangay 168, Deparo, Caloocan City. Emergency services transported eight individuals to Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, while two others were assisted by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Residents reported a foul odor early in the morning, prompting the closure of the valve responsible for the leak. Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan advised the public to avoid the affected areas and recommended that residents remain indoors, keeping windows shut to prevent exposure.
Precautionary measures include wearing face masks for those who must go outside. The situation emphasizes the need for stringent safety measures in industrial operations.
