Aperam's stainless steel meltshop in Genk, Belgium, has completed a significant upgrade led by Primetals Technologies. The project involved revamping an existing 130-ton AOD converter and installing a new 130-ton AOD converter, enhancing production efficiency, flexibility, and safety.

Advanced dedusting and waste heat recovery systems will reduce emissions. The new AOD converter allows for optimized treatment times and use of cost-effective raw materials. Primetals Technologies implemented automation solutions, including the Vaicon Autofix for reduced exchange times and the ALEX condition monitoring system for improved operational control. The upgrade aligns with Aperam's sustainability goals.
