Argentine Navy to Receive First AW109M Helicopter from Leonardo by 2027
The Argentine Navy confirmed it will receive its first Leonardo AW109M search and rescue helicopter in 2027, following a contract signed in February 2026. The acquisition consists of four helicopters, financed through a €71.7 million loan. The AW109M will replace outdated AS-555 Fennec helicopters, enhancing operational capability for maritime missions. The helicopters will support surveillance, interdiction, and logistical operations in the South Atlantic, restoring embarked aviation capacity aboard patrol vessels.

The Argentine Navy is set to receive its first Leonardo AW109M helicopter in 2027, as part of a contract for four helicopters signed in February 2026. The project, financed by a €71.7 million loan, aims to replace the AS-555 Fennec helicopters currently in service.
The AW109M will enhance the Navy's capabilities for maritime surveillance and search and rescue missions. Each helicopter will average €17.9 million in total program costs, including logistics and training. The helicopters are designed for both land and maritime roles, with an operational range exceeding 100 nautical miles, allowing for extended patrols in the Exclusive Economic Zone.
