AWF Seeks Proposals for Borehole Rehabilitation in Karenga District
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is soliciting proposals for the rehabilitation of eight boreholes in Karenga District, Uganda. This initiative aims to alleviate water resource stress caused by wildlife and improve community access to water, supporting ecosystem resilience and reducing human-wildlife conflict.

AWF, in partnership with Uganda Wildlife Authority and local government, is initiating a project to rehabilitate eight hand pump boreholes in Lokori and Lobalangit sub-counties. This project addresses water scarcity exacerbated by malfunctions of existing boreholes, particularly near Kidepo National Park, which increases competition for limited natural water sources.
Improved borehole functionality is expected to lessen the reliance on rivers and wetlands, mitigating potential water quality issues and supporting local communities during dry seasons. This initiative reflects broader efforts to promote coexistence between wildlife and human populations.
