Azerbaijan and Russia Resolve AZAL Plane Crash Aftermath
Azerbaijan and Russia have finalized an agreement to address the aftermath of the AZAL plane crash, including compensation for victims' families. This decision follows discussions between the nations' presidents on October 9, 2025, and aims to strengthen bilateral relations.

On April 15, 2026, Azerbaijan and Russia announced a settlement regarding the AZAL plane crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, which occurred on December 25, 2024. The agreement includes compensation for the victims' families, following a crash caused by an unintended air defense system strike within Russian airspace.
The joint statement from both countries' foreign ministries highlights mutual intentions to enhance cooperative relations and emphasizes the importance of ongoing dialogue based on respect and shared interests. The incident claimed 38 lives, with 67 individuals onboard, including passengers from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Continued collaboration may mitigate future diplomatic tensions and foster regional stability.
