BasiGo Achieves Gold Standard Certification for Electric Buses in Kenya
BasiGo has obtained Gold Standard certification for its electric bus project, enabling it to sell carbon credits from emissions reductions. This marks a significant step in East Africa's transition to electric mobility and cleaner urban transport.

BasiGo has secured Gold Standard certification for its electric bus initiative in Kenya, validating emissions reductions from its fleet. This certification enables the company to sell carbon credits, with initial credits expected to be purchased by Climate Impact Partners.
The project's emissions reductions are attributed to the replacement of diesel buses with electric vehicles. BasiGo aims to deploy 1,000 electric buses by 2027 and has expanded its infrastructure by commissioning three new charging depots in Nairobi, increasing operational capacity. The effectiveness of this initiative as a sustainable financing source remains uncertain.
