Beijing Advances Green Transition Initiatives (2021-2025)
Beijing's green transformation has led to a steady decline in carbon emissions and the achievement of intensity reduction targets during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). The city's carbon market now includes over 1,300 entities, covering 60% of total emissions, with trading volumes exceeding 64 million tonnes.

Beijing's carbon market, established 12 years ago, has achieved a trading volume of over 64 million tonnes and a turnover of 3.7 billion yuan. Over 1,300 entities are included in the carbon market, which represents more than 60% of the city's total emissions.
The city has also seen the China Certified Emissions Reductions (CCER) trading market grow, with over 3,000 accounts and a total trading volume of 9.2 million tonnes by the end of 2025. As part of its climate action plan, Beijing is fostering public engagement through a carbon inclusion mechanism to promote low-carbon behaviors. Future initiatives will focus on enhancing climate governance and innovating the carbon market to further reduce emissions.
