Belize Launches Greening Initiative to Plant One Million Trees by 2031
CARBON CAPTURE
Belize launched the Greening Belize Initiative on January 26, 2026, aiming to plant one million trees over five years to restore landscapes and enhance climate resilience. Key officials, including Prime Minister John Briceño and Minister Orlando Habet, attended the ceremony, which introduced a mobile app for tracking tree planting.
The initiative builds on existing national commitments and includes a BZ$900,000 microfinancing window for community-led projects. Goals include improving carbon sequestration and supporting local communities by 2030.
