Bellmore Neighborhood Under Shelter-in-Place Due to Propane Leak Response
A shelter-in-place order was enacted in Bellmore as first responders managed a propane leak at a gas filling station. The Bellmore Fire Department, along with hazardous materials teams, initiated operations to mitigate the leak and ensure community safety.

A shelter-in-place order was implemented in Bellmore following a propane leak at a liquefied petroleum gas filling station located at 2036 Bellmore Ave. The Bellmore Fire Department arrived at approximately 5:56 p.m. to address a leak from a valve on a 1,150-gallon cylinder, which is used for filling smaller 20 lb. tanks.
Hazardous materials crews and representatives from the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office were on-site to assist. A pressure-reduction operation was initiated, including a flaring process to prevent further gas release.
The Nassau County Office of Emergency Management coordinated sheltering and supported first responders throughout the extended operation. No injuries were reported.
