Bengaluru IT Project Abandoned for Medical College Amid AI Changes
Bengaluru's planned IT project has been replaced by a ₹410 crore medical college due to declining demand and AI automation. This shift reflects significant changes in the job market and investment strategies in the region's tech landscape.

The Karnataka government has repurposed a 9-acre plot in East Bengaluru from an IT project to a ₹410 crore medical college and research centre. Originally designated for Mysore IT Solutions Private Limited in 2006, the land faced legal challenges from farmers until a Supreme Court ruling last year cleared the way for redevelopment.
As the IT sector slows, with a 7% drop in hiring and increased automation impacting jobs, the shift to healthcare infrastructure signifies a strategic pivot in investment and development priorities. This change may signal a broader trend away from traditional IT projects in favor of sectors with more stable growth prospects.
