Blue Origin Identifies Oxygen Valve Failure as Cause of New Glenn Rocket Explosion
Blue Origin has confirmed that an oxygen valve failure led to the explosion of its New Glenn rocket during a static fire test in May. This incident raises concerns about the company's readiness for its upcoming satellite launch mission, which aims to establish a satellite constellation for high-speed internet delivery.

The explosion of Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket occurred on May 28 during a static fire test at Cape Canaveral's Launch Complex 36, attributed to a failure in the main oxygen valve of one of its BE-4 engines. Recovery of hardware and subsequent inspections confirmed the cause of the incident.
Blue Origin is implementing minor modifications to the affected valve, with new hardware expected to be ready by the end of March. The intended mission was to deploy 48 satellites for Amazon's Project Kuiper, marking a significant step in competing with SpaceX's Starlink. Despite the explosion, key infrastructure components remain undamaged, which may mitigate some operational risks.
