Ashwini Bhide, the first female commissioner of BMC, outlines key initiatives including sewage treatment and waste management. Her leadership aims to enhance civic amenities while addressing financial liabilities through innovative revenue streams.

Ashwini Bhide, the first woman commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), is focusing on significant infrastructure projects and essential civic services. The BMC is advancing a sewage treatment plant project to treat 2200 MLD of sewage and enhance Mumbai's water supply by 1100 MLD.
The city has imposed a 10% water cut, and Bhide plans to diversify water sources through desalination and treated sewage reuse. Healthcare and waste management are also priorities, with strategies to improve existing systems and address challenges in slum areas. The BMC is exploring municipal bonds and seeking funding from the Urban Challenge Fund to tackle a financial liability of ₹2.5 lakh crore, aiming to generate additional revenue through development premiums.
