BMW Introduces Hands-Free Motorway Assistant in the UK with iX3
BMW's Motorway Assistant technology will debut in the UK with the iX3, enabling hands-free driving up to 80 mph. This technology is already in use in Germany, the US, and Canada, with over 200 million kilometers driven by users.

BMW is set to launch its Motorway Assistant technology in the UK for the iX3, allowing hands-free driving on motorways at speeds up to 80 mph. This feature, which requires driver gaze confirmation for lane changes, will be available on iX3 models starting in July and can also be purchased by existing owners via an over-the-air update.
The system has type approval in Germany, the US, and Canada, where it has been utilized across several models including the 5 Series and X7. Future BMW models with BMW Operating System X will also feature this technology.
Notably, the system includes driver monitoring to ensure readiness for manual control and incorporates a safety architecture with cameras and mapping. It is classified as SAE Level 2 automation.
