Brazil's Potential Leadership in Carbon Removal Market Amid EU Developments

CARBON CAPTURE

Brazil is poised to become a key player in the global carbon removal market, essential for achieving climate neutrality. The EU has established methodologies for certifying carbon removal credits and plans to capture 150 million tons of CO₂ annually, with an expected demand for over 200 million tons of imports in the future.

Current natural methods remove about 2 billion tons of CO₂ yearly, but innovative technologies like DACCS, BECCS, and Biochar are necessary to meet the required 10 billion tons. Brazil's abundant biomass and existing agro-industrial capabilities can support these solutions, but regulatory advancements are crucial for effective carbon capture and storage (CCS) implementation.
