Bulgarian Employers Oppose Social Security Income Cap Increase for 2027
KRIB contests proposed rise of maximum social security income from EUR 2,300 to 2,400 in Bulgaria. This increase, following a prior adjustment in 2026, could impact industries critical to economic growth.

The Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (KRIB) has objected to the proposed increase of the maximum social security income from EUR 2,300 to EUR 2,400 for 2027. KRIB argues this adjustment, which follows an increase effective August 1, 2026, imposes additional burdens on the private sector, particularly affecting energy-intensive and high-tech industries that contribute significantly to Bulgaria's exports.
Approximately 310,000 individuals are already paying contributions at the previous ceiling, primarily in high-value sectors like software and robotics. The Ministry of Finance's guidelines forecast further increases to EUR 2,500 in 2028 and EUR 2,600 in 2029. The proposed changes could lead to job losses and hinder business plans, particularly in the context of rising energy costs and competition from international markets.
