California Launches Federated Wildfire Data Hub with UC San Diego Supercomputers
California has established the California Wildfire Commons, a federated data hub to enhance wildfire data sharing and management. This initiative, powered by UC San Diego's supercomputing resources, aims to integrate data across 19 state agencies for improved wildfire response and resilience planning.

The California Wildfire Commons has been launched to modernize wildfire data management in California, utilizing the supercomputers at UC San Diego. This initiative addresses fragmented data across various systems, enabling a unified interface for accessing critical wildfire data while maintaining original ownership.
The hub supports interoperability through standardized metadata, facilitating efficient data use among multiple agencies. The California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force aims to treat one million acres annually, with a focus on improving coordination and situational awareness during wildfires.
The interagency dashboard complements this effort by tracking vegetation management to enhance defensible space in rural areas. This approach may significantly improve the state's emergency management capabilities as wildfire incidents become more complex.
