Canva Acquires Simtheory and Ortto to Enhance AI and Marketing Capabilities
Canva has acquired two Australian startups, Simtheory and Ortto, to strengthen its AI collaboration and marketing automation offerings. This strategic move aligns with Canva's ongoing transformation into a comprehensive platform for workflow management and customer engagement, ahead of a major announcement at Canva Create on April 16.

Canva has completed simultaneous acquisitions of Simtheory, an AI collaboration platform, and Ortto, a marketing automation company, enhancing its capabilities in AI and customer engagement. Both companies were founded by Chris and Mike Sharkey, who will transition to leadership roles at Canva.
This acquisition supports Canva Grow, its marketing product, following previous purchases to bolster its marketing infrastructure. Canva, which serves over 265 million monthly users and reported annualized revenues of over $4 billion, aims to evolve from a design-focused platform into a comprehensive system for managing workflows and campaigns. The strategic acquisitions may position Canva favorably for a future IPO, although no timeline has been set.
