Caracol Advances Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing for Composite Applications
Caracol is pioneering the application of large-scale additive manufacturing (AM) in industries like automotive, rail, and aerospace, utilizing its Heron AM robotic platform. This technology streamlines production by replacing traditional mold-based processes, allowing for the efficient creation of complex composite components, which is crucial for low-volume, high-complexity sectors.

Caracol has developed the Heron AM platform, designed for large-format production of composite components, integrating industrial robots and proprietary automation software. This system eliminates the need for traditional molds, significantly reducing lead times and costs, particularly in sectors like motorsport and rail.
A two-year collaboration with Alstom led to the certification of Caracol's technology for printing railway parts, emphasizing its compliance with stringent industry standards. The platform's automation features simplify programming and include an IoT module for real-time monitoring and machine learning capabilities for adaptive processes. Future goals include applications in aerospace, focusing on unmanned drone fuselages and advanced composite parts for space systems.
