Carollo Engineers and CDM Smith to Upgrade Broward County's PFAS Treatment Infrastructure
Broward County, Florida, has contracted Carollo Engineers and CDM Smith to enhance its drinking water treatment infrastructure to combat PFAS contamination, with upgrades slated for completion by April 2031. The project includes the installation of advanced nanofiltration systems and a six-mile potable water transmission main, ensuring operational continuity during construction. Additionally, improvements to SCADA systems and the design of nanofiltration membranes for future reverse osmosis conversion will be implemented.

Broward County, Florida, has selected Carollo Engineers and CDM Smith to design upgrades for its drinking water treatment infrastructure to address PFAS contamination. Announced on January 28, 2026, the project aims to ensure compliance with the U.S.
EPA's NPDWR for PFAS by April 2031. It includes advanced nanofiltration systems at both water treatment plants and the construction of approximately six miles of potable water transmission main connecting WTP 1A in Lauderdale Lakes and WTP 2A in Pompano Beach.
The upgrades will enhance operational redundancy and system reliability. Both plants will remain operational during construction. The project will also improve SCADA systems and design nanofiltration membranes for potential future conversion to reverse osmosis. Carollo and CDM Smith will provide design, permitting, and engineering services, leveraging over 20 years of experience.
