Cavendish Laboratory and FormationQ Launch Applied Quantum Program Utilizing IonQ Technology
FormationQ and the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge have launched an applied quantum program powered by IonQ's trapped-ion quantum systems. This initiative aims to translate quantum research into practical applications while fostering an institutional ecosystem for long-term adoption.
The program will focus on three main areas: enhancing the reliability of quantum computing systems, developing connected quantum technologies for communications and sensing, and preparing industry and society for emerging quantum capabilities. Each area will be led by academic experts and supported by interdisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with real-world needs. The collaboration combines the Cavendish Laboratory's scientific expertise and FormationQ's operational capabilities to address barriers to quantum technology adoption and drive economic growth and societal benefits.
