Cedar Falls Planning Commission to Discuss Zoning for Cryptocurrency Mining and Power Plant
The Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning Commission will meet to discuss zoning changes for a natural gas-fired power plant and a new category for cryptocurrency mining. Local resident Nathan Nebbe expressed concerns over increased noise, energy consumption, and potential water quality issues from the proposed developments near his family's property.

The Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet to consider rezoning a light industrial park to heavy industry for a natural gas-fired power plant and to create a new zoning category for cryptocurrency mining. Cryptocurrency mining requires significant electricity, with one transaction consuming more energy than six American homes for a day.
Local resident Nathan Nebbe raised concerns about noise, energy consumption, and water quality impacts from the proposed developments adjacent to his property. The city has proposed requirements for noise mitigation and water usage management. Nebbe plans to attend the meeting to seek clarification.
