Chamoli Tunnel Incident: 7 Fatalities, 14 Injured in Debris Surge
A sudden influx of water and debris in a hydroelectric tunnel in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district resulted in seven deaths and 14 injuries. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate two workers still trapped inside the tunnel.

On Thursday evening, seven workers died, and 14 others sustained injuries due to a sudden surge of water and debris in an under-construction hydro tunnel at the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation project in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. A total of 22 workers were present when the incident occurred around 6:30 PM.
Rescue operations, involving multiple agencies including the NDRF, SDRF, and the Army, are underway to reach two workers still trapped inside. Heavy machinery is being utilized to clear debris and pump out water, while injured personnel have been transported to local hospitals. The incident raises concerns about safety protocols and the impact of adverse weather conditions on construction projects in mountainous terrains.
