Chile's Science Minister Lincolao Addresses 3% Budget Cut Impact on Research Funding
Ximena Lincolao, Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation in Chile, stated that the government's 3% budget cut will not affect funding for research and universities. The ministry aims to optimize internal management to achieve savings while promoting technological advancement. Lincolao emphasized the need for a robust public-private partnership to reach the target of 1% of GDP investment in science and technology, currently at 0.4%. She also announced a plan for AI literacy among public officials and highlighted the importance of encouraging girls in STEM fields.
