China Mobile Reports 1.1% Revenue Decline Amid AI and 5G Investments
China Mobile's operating revenue fell to RMB 538.04 billion in H1 2026, driven by declines in traditional communication services. Despite this, growth in AI, cloud computing, and international markets indicates a shift towards digital service expansion, which is critical for sustaining future revenue streams in a competitive landscape.

For H1 2026, China Mobile reported operating revenue of RMB 538.04 billion, a decrease of 1.1% from RMB 543.77 billion in the previous year. Main business revenue dropped by 3.1% to RMB 452.66 billion, while revenue from other businesses, including smartphone sales, rose by 11.2% to RMB 85.37 billion.
The company added 5.88 million mobile customers, reaching a total of 1.011 billion subscribers. AI and cloud services saw revenue growth, with AI data center revenue surging 486.1% and cloud computing services up 18%.
China Mobile's 5G network expanded to 2.94 million base stations, enhancing its infrastructure for future services. The international market revenue increased by 30.1%, underscoring the operator’s strategic emphasis on global expansion.
