Chittagong Port Receives 5G Spectrum for Pilot Project
The Chittagong Port Authority has been granted temporary access to 20 MHz of 5G spectrum to test a private network. This initiative aims to modernize port operations through advanced communication technologies over a three-month trial period.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has allocated 20 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band to the Chittagong Port Authority for a three-month trial ending on August 31. The spectrum, provided at no cost, will facilitate the establishment of a private 5G network to enhance port automation, remote crane operations, and real-time monitoring.
This initiative is part of the 'Port Modernisation and Digital Connectivity Enhancement Project' and aims to test the system's viability in a real-world setting. Future spectrum planning may allocate additional bandwidth for private 5G use in critical infrastructures. The trial will be monitored by BTRC teams, and a report on its outcomes will be required from the CPA.
