Chrysalis: A 36-Mile Generation Ship for Interstellar Travel
Chrysalis is a proposed 36-mile-wide spacecraft designed to sustain 1,000 people on a 250-year journey beyond the solar system. Developed under Project Hyperion, it integrates habitation, agriculture, and life-support systems to function independently in a closed-loop ecosystem.

The Chrysalis concept aims to create a self-sustaining generation ship capable of supporting human life for centuries during interstellar travel. Key features include a rotating ring structure that generates artificial gravity, mitigating the effects of weightlessness on inhabitants.
Advanced agricultural systems will utilize vertical farming techniques, recycling organic waste and exhaled carbon dioxide to maintain ecological balance. Significant engineering challenges include assembly in space, ideally at locations like the Earth-Moon L1 Lagrange point, and sourcing materials from lunar or asteroid resources.
