Classic McEliece Algorithm Achieves ISO Standardization for Quantum-Resistant Security
The Classic McEliece algorithm has been added to the ISO/IEC 18033-2 standard for asymmetric ciphers, enhancing security against quantum threats. This development allows organizations across 177 ISO member states to adopt a robust encryption framework, crucial as quantum computing technology advances.

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has standardized the Classic McEliece algorithm, enabling organizations in 177 member states to implement this quantum-resistant encryption method. Classic McEliece, developed by Post-Quantum and cryptographers, utilizes error-correcting codes and is available as open source.
Recent demonstrations included the deployment of quantum-safe drones in challenging environments through a partnership with STV Group. Given advancements in quantum computing and threats like Harvest Now, Decrypt Later (HNDL), the urgency for adopting this standard is heightened. The successful vote for standardization reflects confidence in Classic McEliece's security capabilities against future quantum attacks.
