Climate Tech Dominates Sifted's 2025 Leaderboard of Fastest Growing Startups in the Nordics and Benelux

CARBON CAPTURE

Sifted's 2025 leaderboard has highlighted the resilience of climate tech startups, which comprised nearly a quarter of the fastest-growing companies in the Nordics and Benelux. This representation is particularly striking considering the 71% decline in climate tech funding in the first half of the year compared to 2024. With nearly half of the recognized climate techs based in Stockholm, the city's thriving ecosystem is nurturing innovation in sustainability.

Among the standout companies are Grale, which specializes in plant-based plastics, and Blykalla, a pioneer in advanced small modular nuclear reactors. Grale, for instance, has seen its revenue skyrocket from $180,000 to $3.7 million in just two years, demonstrating the significant demand for eco-friendly alternatives. Similarly, Einride is transforming the transportation landscape with its fleet of electric and autonomous heavy-duty vehicles, reporting an impressive jump in revenue from $5.6 million to $41.4 million.

The momentum in Stockholm is palpable, with over 500 active climate tech firms valued at more than $28 billion. Allen Mohammadi, co-founder of Grale, emphasizes the impact-driven nature of the sector, suggesting that the focus on technology must inherently align with positive societal outcomes.

However, as these startups mature, the challenge lies in scaling beyond the Nordic region. John Diklev, founder of Flower, is keenly aware of this need for international expansion, with plans to deepen their presence in Germany following initial project development over the past two years.

As the climate tech sector navigates a challenging funding landscape, the robust presence on Sifted's leaderboard serves as a beacon of hope and potential for founders committed to making a lasting impact. The journey ahead may require strategic international growth, but the groundwork laid in Stockholm positions these startups favorably for the future.
