Climeworks Establishes Canadian Headquarters in Calgary for Carbon Capture Operations
Climeworks, a Swiss carbon capture company, has established its Canadian headquarters in Calgary. The company will operate a mobile testing facility in Alberta this fall, after testing its technology in Saudi Arabia.
Climeworks aims to build a large-scale carbon capture plant in Alberta, with specific timelines and locations yet to be determined. The company operates two direct air capture plants in Iceland, including Mammoth, which removes 36,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
The Alberta market is becoming attractive for carbon capture due to tax credits and a supportive regulatory framework. Climeworks employs around 400 people globally and plans to hire locally in Calgary.
