COAI Advocates for Skill Development and Deep Tech to Achieve USD 7 Trillion Economy by 2030 in India
India aims to achieve a USD 7 trillion economy by 2030, emphasizing the importance of Skill Development and Deep Tech, according to Lt Gen (retd) Dr S P Kochhar, Director General of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The 2026-27 Union Budget, scheduled for presentation on February 1, is seen as pivotal for implementing these strategies.
With 65% of India's population under 35, there is a significant opportunity to enhance skills, including technology and soft skills, to prepare youth for global job markets. A shift toward outcome-based skilling and decentralizing advanced learning, particularly in tier-two and tier-three cities, is essential.
Priority sectors include AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and green tech, which require patient capital and incentives for domestic technology adoption. A stable tax regime and faster refunds are also requested to support growth and competitiveness.
