Cobalt Iron Launches Compass Tape Gateway for IBM i Workloads
Cobalt Iron introduces Compass Tape Gateway, a software-defined solution for IBM i workloads, enhancing data protection. This development aims to reduce operational costs and improve security measures within enterprise backup environments.

Cobalt Iron has launched the Compass Tape Gateway (CTG), a software-defined virtual tape library designed for IBM i workloads, enhancing its Compass enterprise backup platform. CTG integrates IBM i into a unified data protection framework, providing modern automation and cyber protection.
Built on the Zero Access® architecture, it features multilayer encryption, ransomware detection, and logical air-gap zones, eliminating traditional access methods for enhanced security. This product aims to reduce operational burdens and support scalable, secure data protection across on-premises and cloud environments. The shift towards CTG indicates a response to high costs associated with existing tape solutions, potentially impacting enterprise operational strategies.
