Collingwood Leisure Centre to Transition to Renewable Electricity with New Substation
The Collingwood Leisure Centre project aims to fully electrify the facility, eliminating 304 metric tonnes of CO2 annually. A new electrical substation will support this transition with operations set to begin in May 2026.

The Collingwood Leisure Centre will switch to 100% renewable electricity, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 304 metric tonnes each year. Scheduled for May 2026, the project will involve the installation of efficient electric heat pumps and other energy efficiency upgrades.
A new substation will be constructed in Mayors Park, Clifton Hill, under a long-term lease agreement between Yarra City Council and CitiPower. The substation's easement will measure 6875mm x 6700mm, while the substation itself will be approximately 1600mm x 3200mm.
Additionally, a $2.9 million grant from the Victorian Government's Thriving Suburbs Program is allocated to this initiative. This transition could set a precedent for similar projects in urban areas, highlighting the push towards sustainability in public infrastructure.
