Colorado Introduces $1,500 Heat Pump Rebate to Reduce Building Emissions
The Denver Regional Council of Governments has launched a $1,500 rebate program aimed at promoting heat pump installations in the Denver metro area. This $40 million initiative is part of a broader effort to decrease air emissions from buildings, supported by $200 million in federal funding.

The Power Ahead Colorado initiative offers a $1,500 rebate for the installation of energy-efficient cold-climate heat pumps, replacing traditional heating and cooling systems. Homeowners and businesses in nine counties, including Adams and Denver, are eligible, with the program aiming to mitigate climate pollution from buildings, which are the largest source of emissions in the region.
The rebate complements other utilities' offerings, such as Xcel Energy's rebates ranging from $300 to $750, potentially increasing affordability. In 2025, installed heat pumps in Colorado utilities surged to 14,225, indicating a growing market despite the closure of the HEAR program. An additional $50 million program is being developed to aid low-income households with energy upgrades.
