Completion of Phase One at South Shields Substation by Van Elle's ScrewFast Team
Van Elle's ScrewFast team completed phase one of the South Shields Substation project, crucial for National Grid's PFC technology. This phase included the installation of 541 helical piles and various steel structures, enhancing network efficiency.

Phase one of the South Shields Substation project has been completed by Van Elle's ScrewFast team, facilitating National Grid plc's Power Flow Control (PFC) technology implementation. The works included 541 helical piles, 114 steel grillages, and other structural components, ensuring immediate load-bearing capability for follow-on construction.
Komatsu excavators, including models PC138, PC228, and PC360, were employed for precise installations. Future site visits are scheduled for 2026 and 2027 to finalize the project during planned power outages. The in-house fabrication of all components ensures quality and timely delivery, supporting sustainability and efficiency in foundation solutions.
