Concerns Raised Before LDEQ Hearing on Ascension Carbon Capture Facility
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) will hold a public hearing on April 17 regarding a carbon capture facility proposed by Air Products. Residents express significant health and environmental concerns, particularly regarding the facility's proximity to homes and schools.

The LDEQ is set to conduct a public hearing on April 17 for a proposed carbon capture and storage facility by Air Products in Ascension Parish. Opponents, including residents and environmental groups like Earthworks, have raised alarms about potential health risks and the facility's location near Sorrento Primary School.
They argue that carbon capture and storage (CCS) has not proven effective at scale globally and cite safety concerns stemming from past incidents. The town hall prior to the hearing aimed to increase public awareness and engagement, highlighting a perceived lack of transparency from both Air Products and local officials. This situation underscores ongoing debates about the viability of CCS as a solution to emissions reduction.
