Construction of Edgewater Fibre Optic Network Begins
Construction on a new fibre optic network in Edgewater starts this week, funded entirely by grants. The project aims to enhance internet reliability in rural areas, offering potential future connections for homes and businesses.

The Edgewater fibre optic network construction will commence this week, with the initial phase involving the installation of fibre optic cables on hydro poles over the next three weeks. This project also includes upgrades to SCADA equipment for local water and sewer systems, facilitating improved remote monitoring and operations.
While current efforts do not include connections for homes and businesses, future phases will allow for these connections. Funding for the project comes from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - Rural and Northern Communities Fund, supported by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. This initiative is essential for enhancing internet service in rural regions, laying groundwork for future fibre-to-the-home capabilities.
