The Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners finalized a 10-year franchise agreement with Comcast Cable Communications, enabling the use of public right-of-ways for franchise fees, which will support KLTV, a local public education station. A water main project on Tower Road and the Juanita Way Booster Pump Station was completed for approximately $1.4 million, which was $177,000 under budget.
The County has renewed a five-year consulting contract with WSP USA and Parametrix to aid Public Works. Concerns about severe bank erosion along the Cowlitz River were raised, with the Department of Ecology highlighting the need for dredging. The board is also dealing with budget constraints affecting operations in the region.
