Croatia Allocates €2.7M for Carbon Capture and Storage Initiative
Croatia has allocated €2.7 million to advance a carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative under EU recovery funding. This investment aims to enhance CCS infrastructure, identifying geological sites for CO2 storage and developing a pre-FEED study.

The Croatian government has committed €2.7 million to a carbon capture and storage project. This initiative focuses on mapping deep saline aquifers and geological formations for CO2 storage, alongside creating a pre-FEED study for a facility at the Bockovac site.
The EU's Innovation Fund also supports various carbon capture projects in Croatia, which can potentially store over 1.3 million tonnes of CO2. Notable projects include the Holcim KOdeCO Net Zero initiative at the Koromačnocement plant, targeting 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, and a cement plant in Nasice aiming to store over 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
The ammonia production facility plans to capture 190,000 tonnes per year, while a biorefinery in Sisak aims for 55,000 tonnes. These developments could enhance industrial capacity and attract further investment.
