Crown Estate to Announce Expansion of North East Offshore Wind Farms, Unlocking 6 GW Capacity
The Crown Estate is set to announce plans for leasing new seabed sites in the North Sea, potentially adding over 6 GW of offshore wind capacity and 462 turbines, enough to power nearly a quarter of homes in England. This initiative is expected to attract significant private investment and create 25,000 jobs in the renewables sector over the next decade. The announcement coincides with the start of construction on a £60 million substation for Scottish Power’s East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm in Wallsend.

Construction has begun on a £60 million substation for Scottish Power's East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm in Wallsend, which will be ready for installation in 2027 and operational by 2028. The Crown Estate anticipates 10 to 16 GW of new leasing opportunities by 2030.
