DCCI Appeals to NBR to Protect Compliant Businesses Amid Tax Monitoring Enhancements
The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has called on the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to ensure that compliant businesses are not subjected to harassment during intensified monitoring of withholding tax under the Income Tax Act, 2023. The DCCI emphasizes the need for a supportive business environment alongside effective revenue collection measures.

The DCCI urged the NBR to avoid unnecessary harassment of compliant businesses as it strengthens monitoring of withholding tax deductions. The initiative, if executed effectively, could enhance revenue collection and expand the tax base.
DCCI advocates for providing adequate time and opportunities for businesses that have not achieved full compliance to regularize their tax affairs. They stress that revenue mobilization and a conducive business environment can coexist through dialogue between the NBR and the business community.
Automation and digitalization of revenue administration are essential for reducing compliance burdens and achieving government revenue targets. The NBR has initiated enhanced monitoring of tax deducted at source (TDS) through specialized teams.
