DP World Initiates Five-Year Coastal Restoration Programme at Constanța South Container Terminal
DP World has launched a five-year coastal restoration initiative at the Constanța South Container Terminal to create underwater forests of native seaweed, specifically the brown algae Cystoseira barbata. The project, in partnership with Mare Nostrum and supported by the Romanian Academy and DARVIC, aims to restore marine biodiversity and carbon storage capabilities in the Black Sea region. Activities will include habitat mapping, algae cultivation, and community engagement to promote awareness of coastal ecosystem protection.

DP World has initiated a five-year coastal restoration programme at the Constanța South Container Terminal, focusing on the recovery of Cystoseira barbata, a native brown algae species critical for coastal biodiversity. The project partners include Mare Nostrum, the Romanian Academy, and DARVIC.
Key actions will involve mapping habitats, cultivating algae in nurseries, and reintroducing them to selected areas. The initiative aims to support marine life recovery, enhance carbon storage, and raise community awareness about coastal ecosystems. Monitoring will assess the project's impact on biodiversity and ecosystem health.
