Duke Energy Achieves Record Nuclear Capacity Factor, Plans Future Expansion
Duke Energy's nuclear fleet recorded a capacity factor over 97% in 2025, a record performance that supports future strategies. The company aims for subsequent license renewals and capacity uprates to further enhance its nuclear generation capabilities over the coming decades.

Duke Energy's nuclear fleet, consisting of 11 reactors across six sites, achieved a 97% capacity factor in 2025, marking its best performance. The company plans to extend licenses for its existing reactors, with approvals already secured for units at Oconee and Robinson.
Duke is advancing capacity uprates that could yield an additional 300 MW of output, equating to the capacity of a small modular reactor. Future nuclear projects are anticipated by 2037, with site and technology evaluations underway. The focus on cost discipline aims to mitigate financial risks historically associated with large nuclear projects, ensuring stable residential rates.
